![]() ![]() LCC-422 is useful for incorporating earliness, low pungency and high color. ![]() The parent LCA-422 exhibited the highest negative gca effect for days to 50 per cent flowering, days to maturity, and significant gca effect in desired direction for number of seeds per fruit, 100 seed weight, and capsanthin content. These parents had significant gca effects for number of fruits per plant, 100 seed weight, number of seeds per fruit, capsanthin content, days to 50 per cent flowering, days to maturity, fresh fruit yield per plant, weight of dry stalk less fruits per plant. Among 14 parents, 7 parents have significant positive gca effect for dry fruit yield per plant with the maximum observed in LCA-428 (134.49) followed by LCA-436 (111.51) and LCA-432 (53.45). Forty crosses were attempted in line x tester design using the diverse parents belonging to different groups. Mahalanobis D2 analysis classified the genotypes into 10 clusters indicating considerable genetic diversity. Plant height, plant spread, and fruit diameter exhibited moderate PCV and GCV estimates suggesting the possible role of environment in expression of these characters. ![]() This indicates the higher magnitude of variability for these traits and consequently more scope for their improvement through selection. Higher phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation, heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for number of fruits per plant including fresh fruit yield per plant, dry fruit yield per plant, 100 seed weight, Number of seeds per fruit, capsanthin, capsaicin and oleoresin content. Ninety four paprika accessions were evaluated for seventeen different characters for variability, heritability, genetic advance as percent of mean and genetic divergence. IPB C19 had the best general combining ability for fruit weight per plant character Additive variance of weight and number of fruits per plant were greater than the dominant variance. Crosses among introduced and local genotypes resulted a high heterosis values. Hybrid IPB C8 x IPB C15 has highest number of fruits per plant and showed heterosis effects. The results showed that hybrid IPB C15 x IPB C19 had the highest fruit weight per plant, and hybrid IPB C8 x IPB C19 had the highest heterosis for this character. The fi ve parents with their ten F1 hybrids were evaluated in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The study was conducted from November 2006 to May 2007 at Tajur experimental station, Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. This information will be used for production of hybrid varieties. The objective of the study was to identify the combining ability of several introduced and local chilli genotypes and heterosis effects of their offsprings, as a result of the hybridisation process. ![]()
